Measure the space before buying

Turn a doorway, shelf or table into a usable display area with a few simple checks.

Mark what must stay clear

Open the door fully and trace the movement of drawers, chairs and curtains. Mark the walking route with removable paper. Plan the decoration in the space left over, not in the area people need to use. Check local access requirements where relevant.

Measure width and depth

Record the usable surface width, front-to-back depth and any height limit. For a shelf or windowsill, check the support and intended load before adding heavy fruit. Never balance a pumpkin on a narrow edge or balcony railing.

Try paper footprints

Cut rough paper shapes matching the actual fruit widths, or use the dimensions you plan to check at the shop. Arrange these with the tray or pot already in place. Leave room to lift each fruit for a condition check.

Read suggested widths correctly

An idea’s suggested width is an editorial starting point. It does not include every door swing or circulation requirement and it does not measure your pumpkins. If the template does not fit, remove an accessory, choose smaller fruit or change the location.

Test the arrangement in use

Walk past with a bag, pull out the dining chairs and open the door again. Check the view while seated and after dark. Record the usable width and depth in the planner, then adjust the item list before purchasing.

Keep exploring

Ready to put it into practice?

Keep the display simple, leave a clear path and check the fruit regularly.
