A table for late fall

An uncarved centerpiece that can move from an autumn gathering to the next.

Original scene illustration: A table for late fall
Illustrated concept, not a photograph or a scale drawing. Keep fruit away from heat sources and leave the tabletop functional for a meal.

Why this arrangement works

Tan and orange link the group to the season; small white fruit breaks up the warmer tones.

Adjust it to your space

Keep the centrepiece low and removable. Rearranging the same pieces is enough to give the next gathering a different feel.

Put it together

  1. 01

Lay a washable runner and set the tray where it will not block conversation.

  2. 02

Place the tan and orange fruit slightly apart; turn their most stable surfaces down.

  3. 03

Add the white minis in a loose cluster, keeping the overall height low.

  4. 04

Remove the display during hot food service if space is tight and check the fruit before reusing it.

Make it your own

A plain cloth and a plate can replace the runner and tray.

Change the arrangement rather than adding more pieces for a later gathering.

Keep it looking good

Keep the display sheltered and away from direct sun. Check for soft spots, leakage and unstable placement. Remove damaged fruit promptly; painted or carved display fruit is not for eating.
