The little doorstep
Three pumpkins, one pot and enough breathing room to let every shape stand out.
A light-touch arrangement that keeps pumpkins off the part of the stairs people use.
Small fruit keeps the visual weight low; the lantern is a secondary accent rather than the centre of a tower.
A separate side ledge is essential to this idea. A narrow staircase without one needs a different location.
Identify the existing walking route and handrail access. Do not use stair tread space needed for either.
Set the three small pumpkins on a separate side ledge or level surface.
Add two minis at the base of the display, away from the tread edges.
Place the battery lantern on a dry, steady base and check the route in daylight and low light.
For a narrow staircase without a side ledge, move the whole display to the landing.
Skip the lantern if there is no dry, stable location.
Keep the display sheltered and away from direct sun. Check for soft spots, leakage and unstable placement. Remove damaged fruit promptly; painted or carved display fruit is not for eating.
